New VCF 9 Licensing Option Now Available Through VMUG Advantage

Great news for all VMware home lab enthusiasts, especially those running VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF):
There is now an official and supported way to obtain VCF 9 licenses through VMUG Advantage.

This change finally closes a major gap and provides the clarity many VMUG members have been waiting for since the Broadcom transition.

In this post, I’ll walk you through what’s new, where to find your licenses, and the important details you should know.

Where the New VCF 9 License Option Appears

When visiting the official Broadcom page for Alpine Certificates:

you will now notice a new link at the top of the page:

“Version 9 licenses can be found HERE”

This link redirects you to the VCF portal:

This is where VCF 9 licenses for VMUG Advantage users are now handled.

New: Download Token Generation

Another major improvement many have requested:

At the top right of the VCF portal, VMUG members can now generate a Download Token.

This token allows you to retrieve patches for VCF 9 in a clean and fully supported way – without relying on workarounds.

Some important information:

  • Your email address for your Alpine test account must match your VMUG Advantage account.
  • Your VMUG Advantage membership must be current if you expect to receive VCF and/or VVF licenses.
  • No support is offered for VMUG Advantage home lab products.
  • You may renew your 1-year license two additional times, for a total of 3 years.
  • If you didn’t purchase VMUG Advantage, you can still receive a vSphere Standard edition license.
  • Don’t forget to join your local VMUG chapter for home lab best practices:

Why This Matters

Broadcom’s updated entitlement structure caused a lot of confusion initially – especially around home labs, downloads, and the availability of VCF.

With this update, VMUG Advantage members finally have a:

Clear path to VCF 9 licensing
Supported Download Token mechanism

For anyone running or planning a home lab that mirrors modern enterprise VMware environments, this is a big step forward.

Conclusion

The availability of VCF 9 licenses through VMUG Advantage is a long-awaited and very welcome update. The new portal and token generation simplify the process significantly – and the official instructions finally consolidate all the required information in one place.

If you’re a VMUG Advantage member, check the new portal today and make sure your Alpine and VMUG email addresses match to ensure smooth access.

Happy labbing! 🚀
